The Chinese Herbal Medicine program is a postgraduate course for Acupuncture practitioners who are seeking comprehensive training in Chinese Herbal Medicine. The 24-month program teaches practitioners to safely and effectively incorporate the use of Chinese herbs into their clinical practice. Classes are scheduled in a convenient, modular weekend intensive format, allowing students to maintain their current practice while attending school.
Students explore the unique properties of over 300 individual Chinese herbs and the composition and therapeutic functions of over 150 traditional prescriptions. The curriculum also includes the study of prepared medicines, essential oils, food therapy and drug-herb interactions. Clinical training consists of 210 hours of experience in the herbal dispensary and supervised practice creating and modifying formulas for individual patients.
Building on previous Chinese medicine theory and acupuncture training, graduates will be able to:
– Prepare herbal formulas in various forms
– Modify herbal prescriptions to meet the needs of each individual patient
– Manage patient cases and know when to make appropriate referrals
– Understand commonly seen drug-herb interactions
– Sit for the Chinese Herbology Certification exam offered by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Daoist Traditions was approved through the ACAOM Substantive Change Policy to offer the Certificate of Chinese Herbal Medicine program effective August 16, 2014. This substantive change approval authorizes the institution to offer the program as an AOM Related Program; however, the program is neither accredited nor in candidacy status with the ACAOM. ACAOM does not accredit Certificate of Herbal Medicine programs.
